“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” - Chinese Proverb
I’ve had the intention of publishing my ideas for a long time now. The power of the written word is incredible and it took some time for me to appreciate this fact. Every idea in history, whether it be a book, poem, song, theory, scientific discovery, or multi-million dollar business plan has been written down.
I started writing as a practice in my mid-20’s. It took me a few years of socializing and living an adult life with the multiple newfound freedoms that come with earning more cash than I’ve ever had (not that much) to come to the conclusion that there must be more than just coffee, commute, work, commute, dinner, drinks, sleep and repeat. I was caught in the cycle and wanted out. I learned that writing about my passions and what I was interested in broke that cycle and provided an intellectual outlet.
I’m finally taking the next step in sharing those ideas. I’m now well into my 20’s and have made an observation I wish I realized earlier many years ago. One will never produce quality ideas without a high quantity of ideas. Furthermore, those ideas will never provide utility or a positive impact on the world unless they are shared. Otherwise, they will die in darkness.
A modern example of this concept is Taylor Swift. She seems to have an unlimited number of songs she’s waiting to release every year. Every album seems to have 20 songs and the release crashes Spotify without fail. This high volume approach has resulted in 188 songs on the Billboard Top 100, 40 top 10’s and 9 number 1 hits. Consider how many songs haven’t been published by Taylor. There must be hundreds of songs that never made it to the albums and hundreds more that ended up in the trash. What’s most incredible to me about Taylor is the pent up demand she’s created among her fans. I spent about 8 hours trying to buy a pair of tickets for my girlfriend during the CapitalOne and Verified Fan release. Taylor has become so popular and successful through quality via quantity that she broke Ticketmaster!
I don’t intend to share much about my personal life on this site, but I’ll provide the reader with some background. My name is Louis LaRocque. While I have some French Canadian roots, the name's lineage can’t be verified. My grandfather eneded up in an orphanage in the states, growing up with “the Sisters” as he used to refer to them. I have a wide range of interests but will likely focus on economics, stocks, sports, entertainment, and philosophy. I'm not sure what direction this blog will go in but the goal is for this to be a place where my ideas don't fade away!
